“Scandalous” or Why the Clinton-Lewinsky Scandal Is Still Relevant Today

“Scandalous” is a Fox News Channel documentary-style series that chronicles the events that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton twenty years ago.

The documentary contains seven one-hour episodes, aired on Sunday between January 21 and March 4, 2018, and covers all the controversies between the 1980s Whitewater land deal in Arkansas to President Clinton’s last day in office. Included also there is, of course, the president’s infamous sexual relationship affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office.

The story first broke on the Drudge Report on January 17, 1998, then on January 21 in The Washington Post. Lewinsky stated that she had sexual encounters with Bill Clinton on nine occasions, from November 1995 to March 1997.

As a result, the House Judiciary Committee approved articles of impeachment on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice (on December 19, 1998).

The U.S. Senate eventually acquitted Clinton (on February 12, 1999) and allowed him to finish out his second presidential term (on January 20, 2001).

The only other president successfully impeached by the House of Representatives was Andrew Johnson (on February 24, 1868), but he was also acquitted by the Senate (on May 26, 1868).

People may wonder, liberals in particular, why Fox News cannot quit the Clintons even 20 years after those events.

I was wondering the same thing myself, too, while watching the documentary. “After All These Years”… (like in the Journey song).

The truth of the matter is that the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal should serve as a constant reminder and warning for all of us. Because that was exactly the moment, the starting point, the SpaceX launch, when a demonic woman politician, Hillary (a.k.a. Rodham) Clinton, the president’s wife, surged.

Then she started to victimize herself in front of the nation.

Then she capitalized on it, ran for, and won, a U.S. Senate seat, in 2000. Then she ran for, and won again, the reelection to the Senate, in 2006.

Then, despite the numerous skeletons in her closet (such as Hillarycare, Vincent Foster’s “official” suicide, Travelgate, Filegate, the Chinese Donations, the Russian “reset” button, the Haiti get-rich-quick schemes, the lucrative paid speeches, the Arab Spring, Benghazi, the private server, the Uranium deal, the Russia “collusion” and the quid pro quos, to name just a few), she ran for president twice.

First, she lost the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama, in 2008. I simply cannot tell if this was a good or a bad thing. Then, she ran again for president, and won the Democratic nomination seat by deceit (a good rhyme!) against Bernie Sanders.

Then, despite the same skeletons in her same closet, added to her precarious state of health, she had the audacity (as Obama would put it), to run for president against Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, and she had almost won. God bless that Electoral College!

America had a close call during that unforgettable night of November 8/9, 2016. Americans should consider themselves extremely lucky for not having been duped and conned by such a specimen (even if half of them still don’t realize it).

This is why the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal is still so relevant today.
